Early miR-223 Upregulation in Gastroesophageal Carcinogenesis
2017
Objectives: To test miR-223 upregulation during gastric (intestinal-type) and Barrett esophageal carcinogenesis. Methods: miR-223 expression was assessed by quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction in a series of 280 gastroesophageal biopsy samples representative of the whole spectrum of phenotypic changes involved in both carcinogenetic cascades. The results were further validated by in situ hybridization on multiple tissue specimens obtained from six surgically treated gastroesophageal adenocarcinomas. miR-223 expression was also assessed in plasma samples from 30 patients with early stage (ie, stages I and II) gastroesophageal adenocarcinoma and relative controls. Res…

1986
H2-Antihistaminics, XXVIII: Syntheses and H2-Antagonistic Activity of Derivatives of Carbonic Acid and Analogues Carrying a 3-[3-(Piperidinomethyl)phenoxy]propyl Substituent Derivatives of carbonic acid such as ureas, thioureas, guanidines, and cyanoguanidines as well as the analogous nitroethenediamines were prepared with a 3-[3-(piperidinomethyl…
Polymorphism of immunoglobulin enhancer element HS1,2A: allele *2 associates with systemic sclerosis. Comparison with HLA‐DR and DQ allele frequency
2007
OBJECTIVE: To investigate the relationship of the polymorphic enhancer HS1,2 central to the 3' enhancer complex regulatory region (IgH3'EC) of the immunoglobulin heavy chain genes with systemic sclerosis (SSc) disease and compare it with HLA-DR and DQ associations. METHODS: A total of 116 patients with SSc were classified as diffuse (dSSc) or limited (lSSc), and as carriers of antitopoisomerase I (anti-Scl70) or anticentromere (ACA) antibodies. Allele and genotype frequencies were assessed in the population as a whole and in the two major subsets, dSSc and lSSc. The concentration of peripheral blood immunoglobulin levels was also determined and analysed according to the genotypes. RESULTS: …
Analisi della dieta di Discoglossus pictus (Otth, 1837) in Sicilia (Anura: Alytidae).
2013
Analysis of diet in Discoglossus pictus (Otth, 1837) from Sicily (Anura: Alytidae). The Painted frog (Discoglossus pictus Otth, 1837) (Alytidae) is a monotypic species distributed in North Africa, Sicily and Malta. Many studies have been made in the past about morphological and genetical aspects, but as regards the diet very little can be found in bibliography. This study shows data of a sample of individuals from a breeding site of western Sicily. Samplings were taken from November 2009 to June 2010, during the night. A total of 82 specimens were collected (67 MM and 15 FF). From these we obtained 50 stomachal contents by using the stomach-flushing technique. From stomach contents analysis…

Color and multispectral image processing for the detection of inflammatory lesions of the stomach
2019
The work presented in this manuscript is part of the ANR project EMMIE. This project aims to develop an innovative multimodal system for the detection of inflammatory lesions in the stomach. To this purpose, a prototype has been developed to be able to acquire NBI endoscopic images and multispectral images during human's antrum exploration. The prototype is made of a standard endoscope and multispectral images. The prototype can acquire two types of data: NBI images and spectra. These two modalities are processed independently. Common image processing features are used to recognize four kind of diseases: active gastritis, chronic gastritis, metaplasia and atrophy. In addition, visual based f…
The effectiveness of fish feeding behaviour in mirroring trawling-induced patterns
2017
The ability to observe and predict trawling-induced patterns at spatial and temporal scales that are relevant to inform realistic management strategies is a challenge which scientists have consistently faced in recent decades. Here, we use fish feeding behaviour, a biological trait easily impaired by trawling disturbance, to depict alterations in fish condition (i.e. individual fitness) and feeding opportunities. The benthivorous fish Mullus barbatus barbatus was selected as a model species. The observed trends of responses to trawling in prey species confirmed the effectiveness of a non-trawled zone in sustaining higher levels of diet diversity (e.g. quantity and quality of ingested prey) …
Corynosoma cetaceum in the stomach of Franciscanas, pontoporia blainvillei (Cetacea): an exceptional case of habitat selection by an Acanthocephalan
2001
Adult acanthocephalans are typically found in the intestine of vertebrates, where they can readily absorb nutrients. However, Corynosoma cetaceum has been frequently reported in the stomach of cetaceans from the Southern Hemisphere. The ecological significance of this habitat was investigated by examining data on number, sex ratio, maturity status, biomass, and fecundity of C. cetaceum in different parts of the digestive tract of 44 franciscanas Pontoporia blainvillei. Individual C. cetaceum occurred in the pyloric stomach (PS) and, to lesser degrees, in the duodenal ampulla (DA) and the main stomach (MS). Females outnumbered males in all chambers, although the sex ratio was closer to 1:1 i…
Evidence for region-specific effects of Glucagon-like Ppeptide-2 in mouse stomach”

Evidence for the presence of P2y and P2x receptors with different functions in mouse stomach.
2005
To clarify the function of P2 receptor subtypes in mouse stomach, the motor responses to ATP, alpha,beta-methyleneATP (alpha,beta-MeATP), P2X receptor agonist, 2-methylthioATP (2-MeSATP), P2Y receptor agonist, and the effects of the desensitisation of P2X receptors with alpha,beta-MeATP and of P2Y receptors with ADPbetaS were analysed recording the endoluminal pressure from whole-organ. ATP-induced relaxation was antagonised by suramin, non-selective P2 receptor antagonist, by desensitisation of P2Y receptors with ADPbetaS, and increased by desensitisation of P2X receptors with alpha,beta-MeATP. alpha,beta-MeATP produced biphasic responses: relaxation, reduced by P2X- or P2Y desensitisation…
